How to Measure Golf Cart Tires & Wheel Offset
Nov 28th 2017
Sizing Your Golf Cart Tires
Golf cart tire sizing is confusing at best. So, let's start by looking at a completely stock golf cart tire. The most common stock golf cart tire size is 18x8.50-8. This translates into a tire that is 18" tall, 8.5" wide (full of air) and fits on a wheel that is 8" round. Stock golf cart wheels are typically 8x7 which means the wheel is 8" tall and 7" wide. See charts below for measurement breakdown and metric conversion.
Golf Cart Wheel Offset
Sometimes it feels like you need a PhD in physics to understand wheel offset, but it’s not that hard to understand if you know the correct way to think about it. Wheel offsets can easily be explained using the chart below.
On a wheel that has a 3x4 offset, the 3 represents the total inches of the backspacing. The 4 represents the distance from the mounting surface of the wheel to the front edge of the wheel. If the wheel is centered, then the mounting surface (where the hub touches the wheel) is of equal distance to both the front and rear wheel edge.
Now that you know how to properly measure your golf carts tires and wheel offset, you can replace your tires with the correct size when the time comes, or you can buy a set of completely new golf cart wheels and tires and make your cart your own!
