Jul 28th 2016
Installing an ultimate light kit upgrade on your Club Car Precedent is a huge undertaking, so much so, that Madjax recommends this be done by professionals. With that said, if you have some mechanical abilities, and want to test your skills, this is the perfect project. It will require a great deal of skill, and you’ll need to exercise patience, caution, and care because this install will require you to drill holes into the body of your cart.
If you don’t think you possess the skills, or just the thought of drilling into your cart’s body causes you panic, do not attempt this install. For those of you who are confident, this step-by-step tutorial should aid you in successfully upgrading your light kit.
Ultimate Light Kit Upgrade and the Tools You’ll Need
Your upgrade comes with two headlights, two LED taillights, one wiring harness, eight screws, and a hazard switch. You will also find an automotive grade light/turn signal assembly, steering column cover, pressure activated brake pad switch, horn, push/pull four-way switch, mounting hardware, and necessary relays and wiring.
The tools needed to complete this project are a Phillips head screwdriver, a power drill with a 15/32 drill bit, a cutting tool, and sand paper. Once you’ve laid out all the hardware and tools, you’ll be ready to begin.
Madjax Light Kit First, Then Upgrade
The first thing that you need to do is install your basic Madjax Light Kit with the correct harness; once completed you’ll be ready to begin installing the ultimate upgrades that come with this kit. Your remaining materials after the light kit installation are your brake pad, brake mounting screws, column cover, turn signal assembly, new hazard push/pull switch knob, and your horn.
18 Steps to Installing Your Ultimate Light Kit Upgrades
1. Remove two of the screws from the backside of your turn signal assembly, then place the assembly over the column cover, and secure it by reattaching the screws. You’ll need your drill for this. Once you have the assembly in place, put the back cover on.
2. Next you’ll attach your column cover. You want your harness to go in the channel furthest away from the opening that wraps around your column; with that, you’ve completed the attachment of your turn signal to your column.
3. Now it’s time to remove the front dash. You’ll use your drill to take off three of the factory screws and set them aside. This allows you to remove the dash and begin attaching your upgrade indicator to the harness on your cart.
4. The first thing you need to do once the dash is removed is take the cart and switch into tow, then switch the key switch off.
5. Remove the two yellow wiresfrom your push/pull switch and unplug your light kit harness from your bucket or club car factory harness. Once you have that unplugged, there is no power running your light kit harness, and you can begin the wiring.
6. Next, locate the four blue spade connectors at the end of your light kit harness. Find the two large spade connectors, the solid blue wire, and the green and white wire.
7. Cut these two wires, strip them, and then put bullet connectors on the ends of them; this will allow your brake lights to come on.
8. Now that your spade terminals are connected to each other, you can go ahead and reattach your light kit harness to your bucket or factory harness.
9. Now you will go back to the two yellow wires that you pulled from your light kit harness in step 5. Take a multi-meter and find the 12-volt constant. To do this you need to plug the positive into the spade terminal and touch the negative on the battery.
10. Once you’ve found the 12-volt constant, take the male purple spade terminal that is coming from your turn signal assembly and plug it into the yellow wire that has the 12-volt constant. The other yellow wire will not be used.
11. Now the two yellow wires that come out of your turn signal harness will plug into the back of your push/pull switch that you installed earlier. Once it’s completed, you’re finished attaching your upgrade harness into your light kit, so safely tuck the harness back inside your dash, and reattach it using the three factory bolts you removed earlier.
12. After your dash is securely reattached, remove your light kit knob and replace it with your hazard light knob.
13. Now it’s time to install your horn. Take the orange and black wires that comes from your headlight harness and plug them into your horn. It doesn’t matter which terminal the wires are plugged into.
14. To secure the horn, use the bracket and factory bolts, and attach it to the frame of the car.
15. Installing your brake pad is the last piece of your upgrade kit; begin by removing your floor mats and brake access panel cover.
16. Next, install your brake pads using the six screws provided in the kit, attaching the brake pad to your brake pedal.
17. Once it’s attached, you need to secure your brake pad harnessto the brake pedal; use your discretion and run your brake pad harness into your brake pad cavity plugging it into either your bucket or factory harness. Do this by using the female/male bullet connectors; the black spade connector will not be used. Reattach your brake access.
18.Last, reattach your floor cover and re-install your floor mat.
