Great Golf Cart Decorating Tips for Every Holiday Season
Oct 12th 2016
We’re well into “pumpkin spice” season, which means that holidays—including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza—are right around the corner. Not only do these holidays mean great food and family time, but they also bring parades, festivals, and other forms of celebration.
During fall festivities, your golf cart is another great way to show your holiday spirit. Decorating your golf cart can be a great activity to share with your friends and family, and the completed product can be whimsical or a masterpiece. See below for some great ideas on decorating your golf cart for the holiday season!
1.Halloween
Halloween is synonymous with delicious treats, scary movies, and creative costumes. Decorating is second nature during Halloween—dressing up is a time-honored tradition for kids, and families often litter their lawns with ghosts, scarecrows, and witches to get into the Halloween spirit.
You can take this fun and spooky celebration one step further by decorating your golf cart, especially if your town has a Halloween parade! Use balloons and some sheets to create the appearance of ghosts on top of your golf cart. You can also place a large, constructed witch’s hat, or build a series of small tombstones on top of your golf cart.
If you want to get a bit more creative, go through your favorite scary movies for inspiration! Creating a Hocus Pocus themed golf cart is sure to be a favorite at the parade. You could also disguise the golf cart as Dracula’s castle. Another great idea is a Scooby Doo themed golf cart. The family could dress up as Scooby and the gang—which is perfect for including the family dog—and disguise the golf cart as the Mystery Machine. As a bonus, add spooky music, or classics like “Monster Mash” while you drive your decorated golf cart.
2.Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day parades are commonplace around the country, the most notable of which is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is televised on major television stations. They often feature large floats, but there is definitely room for some creatively decorated golf carts in many of the medium to smaller sized parades.
Decorating your golf cart for Thanksgiving is a great time to get creative. You could opt for the traditional themes—turkey, Pilgrims, and Indians. First, you could create a cornucopia on top of the golf cart which aligns with the classic image of the original Thanksgiving cornucopia. Second, stage a feast inside of the golf cart, and decorate the cart as a teepee. You could also take this idea and substitute an old Pilgrim’s ship for the teepee.
However, some of these themes could be offensive to some, given that the historical retelling of the Thanksgiving story erases much of the Native American point of view and the trespasses they suffered at the hands of the Pilgrims. To both avoid causing offense, and push yourself to be creative, explore new ideas! Perhaps you could pick a favorite family Thanksgiving tradition, and decorate your cart in that manner.
3.Christmas
Christmas in the United States is more than a holiday—it is an entire industry. From presents, to house decorating, to Christmas music, it’s easy to know when Christmas is on the horizon.
Many houses also decorate with bright lights, Nativity scenes, reindeer, and Santa dolls for Christmas. This should make finding inspiration for decorating your golf cart easy—just look around you! For example, you could use cardboard, cotton, papier maché, and paint to create a gingerbread house out of your golf cart.
Second, dress up as Santa and his elves, and decorate the golf cart as Santa’s Workshop! This idea allows you to implement your own childhood imaginings of Santa’s Workshop.
Third, create cardboard cutouts of the eight reindeer, and mount them on the top of the golf cart. You can use cotton to simulate snow, and use that to coat the top of the golf cart.
Fourth, decorate the golf cart as a giant Christmas tree using real Christmas decorations. This idea requires a bit of thought, since making the tree structure stable so that it doesn’t topple over mid-parade can be tricky. You can also gift-wrap empty boxes, glue them together, and place them on the back of the golf cart to simulate presents under the tree.
Christmas decorating ideas are endless. Choose one and go for it!
Final Thoughts
There are an infinite number of possibilities for decorating your golf cart for the holidays. When decorating your golf cart, keep safety in mind. Sometimes decorations can make a smaller golf cart unsteady. Purchasing seat belts, if you don’t already have them, could be a good idea.
It is great to have a creative idea, and execute it well. However, at the end of the day, the time you spend with your friends and family decorating and riding in the golf cart is what you’ll remember for years to come.
