Great Golf Cart Accessories for All Your Fall Activities

Sep 7th 2016

Fall brings hunting season, which provides a prime opportunity to put your golf cart to work for you out in the open fields and woods. Whatever type of hunting you are involved in, you can accessorize your cart to accommodate your hunting and camping needs.

With your cart adequately equipped, you will be prepared for your next hunting excursion. If you use your golf cart on daily or overnight hunting trips, then consider some of the following essential accessories.

  • Camouflage cart enclosure. Cover your golf cart with an enclosed camouflage cover. A heavy-duty vinyl cover fully surrounds your cart so it is essentially invisible in the outdoors. The enclosure will protect you from a chilly fall breeze, as well as precipitation.
  • Camouflage seat covers.Camouflage covers are an appropriate accessory for the hunter. Usually made from Cordura fabric, this heavy-duty fabric is water and mildew resistant. The front and back seat covers are equipped with bungee cords, with easy to install nylon straps and snaps to securely fasten the covers.

  • Camouflage steering wheel cover. This smart accessory not only blends in with the forestenvironment, but also shields your steering wheel from dust, dirt, and oil. Some camouflage wheel covers are made from neoprene material, which is also used to make diving wetsuits, so you are assured it will be long lasting.
  • Heater. With the cooler fall temperatures, a quality golf cart heater will keep you comfortable on those cool early mornings and crisp days. You can find heaters that fit into a standard 16.4-ounce propane tank which fit all golf cart models and can warm up a 100-square foot area.
  • Roof and gun rack. This item is a cart necessity for hunters and campers. A roof rack offers a whole new storage area for your guns, tree stand, camping equipment, and any wild game you bring home. These racks are made to fasten securely onto the top of a cart. After situating your equipment in the center of the rack, you can tie it down for added protection.
  • Brush guards. Quite simply, brush guards will protect your cart from brush and branches as you navigate through the fields and woods.
  • Lift kit. Adding a lift kit will heighten the frame of your cart for better ground clearance through brushy terrain and flowing streams. These kits are simple to add using bolt-on installation and are available in ranges from three- to ten-inch heights.

Upgrading Your Cart

Hunters and campers are progressively converting their current carts or purchasing used carts and adding extra features. An older cart is typically less costly and easier to customize. Several options for customization are available and can be completed in stages subject to your timeframe and budget.

  • Assess the motor. Begin by replacing the motor with one that will meet the needs of the environment over which you will be traveling. If you plan to hunt or camp in an area with steeper hills, you will want a motor that has more torque than speed, and vice-versa if the terrain is flatter.
  • Replace the batteries. All hunting golf carts have a maximum range. The batteries are the most expensive items in converting the cart, but they are also the most essential. Aim for batteries that provide the most run time. After installing the batteries, maintain them for optimal operating time and longevity.
  • Add new tires and wheels. Depending on where you will drive your cart, you may want to add all-terrain tires or tires that are very aggressive and better suited for rocky or uneven surfaces. If you install a lift kit, the size of the tire will be established by the size of the lift. Aim for either black powder coated aluminum wheels or steel wheels, because these are sturdier.
  • Enhance the suspension. You should replace regular leaf springs with heavy duty leaf springs to reinforce the extra weight of passengers and equipment. Arear seat kit with cargo conversionis preferred by hunters, and the weight of the kit requires an upgraded suspension.
  • Add some accessories. Depending on your hunting and camping requirements, there are many accessories from which to select. If you plan to fish as well as hunt, you may wish to add a hitch combined with a cooler rack and fishing pole receptacle. Coolers are a necessity, and one that also serves to carry ammunition is a wonderful accessory.

Whether you are a seasoned hunter or a weekend outdoor enthusiast, your converted golf cart will enhance your experience.
